2010: A Time to Learn to Play Guitar
2010 is going to be a great year for anyone who wants to buy guitar lessons. Online lessons are still very popular, but several new DVD courses are available. The two top selling courses come from Jamorama (the makers of a well-known online course) and Legacy Learning Systems, who creators of a great DVD guitar lesson course. Later in this article some of the recent changes going on at Jamorama will be explained.
Online lessons or downloads of videos for learning are here to stay, but with many people preferring to use their new wide-screen TVs to view their guitar course, the DVDs remain a popular and beneficial choice. Why would DVDs be better? For one, you don’t have to view them from a computer, any DVD player will do. Also, you can view them on your television instead of your computer screen. This means you can set up a more comfortable spot to do your lessons (and possibly look forward to learning even more).
Another benefit with DVD lessons is that they allow you to take your lessons with you – you can go to a friend’s house and, as long as they have a DVD player, you can view them there. Or you can take the jam along CDs to use whereever you have a CD player available.
I am not saying that online lessons are not good – they are great! Some can be confusing though if the program is not designed well. For example, some don’t make it clear enough which lesson to take when. All in all, for a beginner guitar player, any of the well-known lessons are a good start. And it is nice to know there is a choice between online or DVDs for those who don’t have a newer, faster computer.
As a choice in DVD guitar lessons, much can be said about the value in the Learn and Master Guitar lessons course. Steve Krenz is the teacher and along with Legacy Learning Systems (producers of professional training materials) this team has won many awards. Though it’s not the lowest priced course on the market, it is one of the most complete guitar learning programs available (with 20 DVDs and 5 Jam Along CDs, as well as a printed workbook and an online community to connect with other students and also with the teacher).
One of the top download sites is Jamorama. They have made a few changes for 2010 that are pretty exciting. The Standard course (which they are well-known for) is still being offered at a low price – an excellent choice for a total beginner. The great news is the new Deluxe Edition, designed for those who are looking ahead to being an intermediate or advanced guitarist (or for those who already play but want to improve and polish their skills). It has specific tips of playing acoustic guitar and the Deluxe edition will also allow you to learn riffs and electric lead guitar licks, as well as learn even more songs. And, the other new offering from Jamorama is their Hard Copy Edition which gives you all of the great downloads on DVDs. All three of the choices from Jamorama come with bonus guitar software programs – and the Deluxe and Hardcopy Editions include an additional bonus.
When it comes to learning a life-long skill such as playing the guitar, it would be ideal if “money was no object.” Fortunately there are prices suited for any pocketbook – even when just comparing these two programs: Learn and Master Guitar or Jamorama. No matter what the cost is in dollars, nothing compares to the huge value to the new guitar student of having instruction that helps you begin playing guitar or options to enhance existing skills for those who want to improve as a guitarist.
